Enjoy the flavors of a holiday ham any time with this easy glazed ham steak! All you need is 15 minutes for a balanced savory-sweet dinner.

A plate with sliced ham topped with pineapple, a serving of mashed potatoes, and green beans. A fork is placed on the plate.

When it comes to dinner at my house, fast is the name of the game. My kids go from being not hungry to clamoring for food in about 8.3 seconds, so if you don’t have a plan queued up, you’re in for a grumpy evening.

I always keep things on hand we can whip up in minutes, whether that means frozen potstickers and stir fry veggies, pasta and spaghetti sauce, or quick-prepare meats like kielbasa or ham steaks.

Ham steaks are fully cooked when you buy them, so they only need a few minutes to get them ready for the table. The sweet glaze has a bit of mustard for acidity, which pairs beautifully with the salty ham. And I love the pop of flavor from the pineapple!

This glazed ham steak is a great option for when you’re short on time, or if you’re having a smaller holiday dinner. You’ll love how easy it is!

Ingredients for ham steak

Full list of ingredients with quantities is located in the recipe card.

Ingredients on a marble surface: ham steaks, Dijon mustard, pineapple slice on a plate, brown sugar, butter, and maple syrup.

You’ll need:

  • Ham steaks – These are usually sold as single steaks approximately 8 ounces each. I prefer to get the ones without the bone as it is easier to portion equally for serving.
  • Maple syrup – Make sure it is pure maple syrup, not imitation!
  • Brown sugar – Light or dark are both fine here.
  • Dijon mustard
  • Unsalted butter
  • Pineapple slices – If you prefer, you can use pineapple chunks instead. I like the rings so I can cut the pieces to the size I like.

How to make this recipe

In a small bowl, combine the maple syrup, brown sugar, and mustard. Whisk until blended into a thick glaze.

Cut the ham steaks in half so they fit into a large skillet. You can cut them smaller if needed; they should all be able to fit into the pan.

Set the skillet over medium-low heat and add the butter. When the butter is melted, add the ham steaks. Cook until lightly browned on both sides, 3-5 minutes per side.

Arrange the pineapple around the ham. If there isn’t room, set the pineapple aside for now.

Spoon half of the prepared glaze over the ham. Spread it evenly over each piece, then turn the ham steaks over and glaze the other side.

Increase the heat to medium and cook 1-2 minutes per side, stirring to glaze the pineapple, until the glaze has thickened.

Transfer the ham to plates. If you set the pineapple aside earlier, add it to the pan and stir to coat with the glaze. Brush any extra glaze on top of the ham, then spoon on the pineapple.

Storage tips

If you have leftover ham steaks, place them in an airtight container and use within 3 days.

I prefer to reheat them on the stove in a medium-low pan. This method helps the glaze melt evenly and the ham not get overcooked and tough.

Repurpose your leftovers for breakfast to make a ham and cheese quiche, ham asparagus scones, or a Denver omelet!

Serving suggestions

Wondering what to serve with your ham steak?

Go for classic potato dishes like garlic mashed potatoes or homemade scalloped potatoes.

Add quick veggie sides like steamed green beans, honey roasted carrots, or parmesan asparagus.

Don’t forget whole wheat rolls or rosemary parmesan bread to round it out!

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 2 ham steaks, about 8 ounces each, halved
  • 2 pineapple slices, cut into smaller pieces

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, brown sugar, and mustard.
3 tablespoons pure maple syrup, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 2 tablespoons dijon mustard
  • Add the butter to a large skillet set over medium-low heat. Once the butter is melted, add the ham steaks and cook for 3-5 minutes per side, or until lightly browned. You can speed up the cooking time by turning the heat up to medium, but be careful not to burn the butter.
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, 2 ham steaks
  • Place the pineapple pieces around the ham (see notes). Spoon half of the glaze over the ham, spreading it around, flip, then add the remaining glaze. Turn up the heat to medium and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes per side, stirring to glaze the pineapple, until the glaze becomes thick.
    2 pineapple slices
  • Transfer the ham to serving plates, then spoon or brush any remaining glaze on top. Top with the pineapple pieces.

Notes

  • If thereโ€™s not enough room in the skillet for the pineapple pieces, set them aside while cooking the ham. After removing the ham from the skillet, stir the pineapple pieces to coat with the glaze.
