Avocado mousse is a luscious, rich chocolate dessert sweetened with honey. It’s a quick and easy dairy-free delight!
I get into funks pretty easily, and I’m always surprised what a little self care โ and some seriously good chocolate desserts โ can do for my well-being.
This avocado mousse is ridiculously rich and creamy, yet so easy to make.
You want to use a perfectly ripe avocado for this โ difficult I know, but it can be done. Buy your avocado while it’s still hard, and leave it on the counter. You can speed up ripening by placing it in a paper bag, and then give it a gentle squeeze every day to see if it has softened.
I use honey to sweeten this avocado mousse, but you can use agave nectar, monkfruit, or maple syrup if you like. I find liquid sugar works best in this, as you are not heating it. Add more honey to suit your tastes. (I like my avocado mousse on the bittersweet side.)

You’ll need:
Avocado – I recommend buying at least two avocados for this recipe, because you want it to be that ideal level of soft. Usually avocados are still hard at the store, so let them ripen on the countertop for a day or two before using.
Cocoa powder – Dutch-process cocoa powder will give you a richer flavor, but any variety will work. Make sure it is unsweetened.
Honey – Use a mild honey like clover honey. Wildflower honey can have a very strong taste that might overpower the chocolate.
Vanilla extract – Use pure extract if you have it! Vanilla paste will work as well.
Espresso powder – This is optional, but a little bit of coffee will bump up the chocolate flavor. If you don’t have espresso powder, you can dissolve instant espresso in a small amount of water.
Salt – Just a pinch of salt lifts up the other flavors.

recipe tips
To make this recipe a bit lighter in texture, blend in 1/4 cup milk, coconut milk, or heavy cream. Or, fold in 1/2 to 1 cup of whipped cream or nondairy whipped topping.
To make this a vegan chocolate mousse, swap out the honey and use agave nectar or liquid monkfruit sweetener instead. Keep in mind that you might need to reduce the amount of sweetener to account for the difference in flavor.
If you haven’t tried combining avocado and chocolate yet, you should give this easy recipe a try. Or go for my chocolate avocado mini donuts! They’re scrumptious for breakfast.
This avocado chocolate mousse recipe is intended for two people, but it’s very rich, so can be stretched to four servings. Serve with with fresh raspberries or blackberries and whipped cream for a luscious end to the day.
