Level up your pizza with this easy to make pizza seasoning blend. Made with ingredients you already have in your pantry, it boosts the flavor of any pizza.

We eat pizza a lot at my house, whether it’s homemade, frozen, or takeout. One thing I always keep on hand for pizza night is my favorite pizza seasoning blend.

This blend is super easy to mix up and adds so much flavor, especially to those frozen pizzas! It takes the standard pepper flakes you’ll see at any pizzeria and adds herbs and spices for a tasty topping or recipe add-in.

Add it to your homemade pizza dough, sprinkle into sauce, or simply season up your slice. Because it’s so easy to customize the flavors, you can make and enjoy this seasoning just how you like it!

Ingredients for pizza seasoning

Full list of ingredients including quantities is located in the recipe card.

Six spice jars on a hexagonal tile surface, labeled: oregano, basil, salt, onion flakes, red pepper flakes, fennel seeds, garlic powder.

You’ll need:

  • Dried oregano
  • Dried basil
  • Salt – I usually use fine sea salt. If you use coarse or kosher salt, you might want to adjust the amount as the crystals are larger.
  • Dried onion flakes
  • Garlic powder
  • Crushed red pepper flakes
  • Fennel seeds

As you can see, pizza seasoning is very similar to Italian seasoning, with a few differences. You can adjust the flavors to add your favorites, like dried parsley, paprika, lemon zest, or black pepper.

Don’t want to use the larger pieces of onion? Simply swap in onion powder for the onion flakes.

How to make this recipe

Making your own seasoning blends couldn’t be easier!

Combine all of the ingredients into a bowl and mix well. Then transfer to a spice jar or an airtight container for storage.

You can also blitz all of the ingredients together in a food processor for a finer seasoning blend. I usually don’t bother, though!

Your seasoning blend should keep for 6 months or longer, as long as you keep it stored in a cool, dry location.

Uses for pizza seasoning

You can sprinkle this seasoning directly on top of your pizza. If making pizza from scratch, I like to sprinkle it on top of the marinara sauce, or mix it in before spreading the sauce onto the dough.

This mix is also good for sprinkling onto breadsticks or garlic knots, topping vegetables before roasting, seasoning chicken, and more! Sometimes I brush a bit of melted butter onto edge of the pizza crust and sprinkle the seasoning on for a bit of flair.

Package this seasoning blend with a pizza peel and pizza cutter for a great kitchen gift, or simply keep a jar on hand for whatever recipe needs a boost.
